about

I Fight Lions UK

I Fight Lions are a rock band hailing from the mountains of North Wales. Like many other bands, they write songs and perform them in public places; often for applause, seldom for money.

Track Name: Domestics & Diet Pills
Fuelled by far too much tea, she writes shit poetry
It's just prose put in lines and stanzas
About her crippling addiction to dramatization
Of run of the mill circumstances

Be wary of the sweet talk that she slurs
‘cause she’ll screw you in all senses of the word

It's not that I don't think she’s pretty
But it’s her drama not looks that could kill
Trying too hard to illicit pity
Through pretend domestics and diet pills

She's got Polaroid pictures adorning her wall
Of dozens of boys, heard she's had them all
How on earth she concludes there's a mutual allure
Eludes me, I'm far from enthralled
Track Name: Crooked
There was a crooked man, he walked a crooked mile
He stole a crooked sixpence and smiled a crooked smile
And said "Boy, when you get older, and you start wising up
You'll see morality is malleable and everyone's a schmuck"

But he said it through fake golden veneers
Which makes it twice as hard to believe
If you can't afford a proper dentist, don't want your tips on fiscal sensibility

I don't want to spend every second I'm awake
Mulling over mistakes
I don't want to spend every penny that I make
Paying off the promises I break

There was a crooked cat who caught a hapless mouse
He drained the mouse financially and bought himself a house
Consumed by greed, he takes more than he needs
A fat feline living lavishly on another's poverty

And as he clambered out his mother's womb
He spat out a solitary silver spoon
And said "Mother, the day will come around
When I run this country, run it to the ground"
Track Name: Frankie Goes to San Fernando Valley
Aesthetically, perhaps I’m not too pleasing
You wouldn’t introduce me to your friends
Your shoulder isn’t cold, my love; it’s freezing
Toward all the fawning poetry I’ve penned
Though I may be offensive to your senses
And worse yet to your sensibilities
I know when I’m around I’ll never lower your defences
But your heart beat loses its stability

You’ll never know what its like to be me
All these synthetic feelings have this power over me
You’ll never know what its like to be me at all

I wasn’t born - I was made; so I’m quite mature for my age
These boys, they say they love you but they have no clue
'cause even though my paper’s frayed I’m sure we’re still on the same page
It’s just a shame I know I’ll never have you
You'll never let me close enough to hold you tight
But despite my frightful face I’m quite the charmer
I’ll keep all your photographs close to me at night
As I dream of being your knight in shining armour

You'll never know what it's like to be me
You see, I'm falling apart at the seams
You'll never know what it's like to be me at all

Manufactured to feel lust, but incapable of seduction
Tease me if you must, but I must leave you this instruction:
I’m not sure how well I’m put together; I think I’m falling apart
So please be particularly careful with my heart

You'll never know what it's like to be me
How can you empathise with a different breed?
You'll never know what it's like to be me
You weren't created in a laboratory
You'll never know what it's like to be me
You see I'm falling apart at the seams
You'll never know what it's like to be me at all
Track Name: I Should Quit
“Any publicity is good publicity”
Well that’s a bare-faced lie
Look at Gary Glitter, Josef Fritzl, maybe Adolf Hitler
Universally vilified
So before you load your gun and acidify your tongue
Aim at my art and fire
I suggest you take your time to consider the cruelty of my crimes
Because all I’ve done is write

Songs that sound good in my head
Songs that don’t make any sense
To anyone but me
I’m aware that it’s subjective it’s your choice to be
Subjected to these thoughts of mine
If it doesn’t float your boat that’s fine
Just know that there’s nothing you can do to stop me telling the truth

I’m just so Goddamned good

If everyone liked everything
Then everyone would be happy
If everyone liked everything
Then everyone would be boring

Stamp your feet and clap your hands if you think a few words can
Dictate your every move
Stamp your feet and clap your hands if you think your fellow man
Can think for himself too
See before you dip your quill in ink that instigates the illnesses
That plague my self-esteem
I suggest you have a drink or four and have a good long think before
You crush this poor boy’s dreams

‘cause These songs don’t sound shit in my head
And despite all the things you said
I don’t believe
That I should let go of what I love to do and the fact is I love to do
This, my love, the only thing
That makes me high, makes me sing
Though it’s just writing words and melodies over guitar riffs and beats

I’m just so Goddamned good

I should quit I should quit while I’m ahead
I should quit before it gets to my head

I’m just no Goddamned good

If everyone liked everything
Then everyone would be happy
If everyone liked everything
Then maybe someone would like me
Track Name: Carousels
The carousels, they come to life
Filling the darkness with big bright lights
And the laughter and music that once was elusive
Is now on repeat in our minds
But when does the repetition end?
Our realities and dreams, they start to blend
And our dreams become boring and bland

We need excitement; we need to live our lives
But it’s going ‘round in one big circle if it’s always going right
We need excitement; we need to live our lives
And in order to progress we need to leave the perfect past behind
We have greener pastures to find

I was once confronted by a clown
In place of a smile, he was wearing a frown
He said “D’ya think I piss glitter? I vomit rainbows?
The shit that I go through, no-one knows
But every day I perform, and I maintain a smile
And when I see the joy in my audience’s eyes
It keeps me sane for a while”

Ladies and gentlemen, this ain’t your standard show
It’s just therapy to keep me on my toes
Ladies and gentlemen this ain’t your standard show
It’s just so I don’t go from slow to comatose
Ladies and gentlemen, this ain’t your standard show
It’s an addiction that stops me growing old
Ladies and gentlemen, this ain’t your standard show
